On The Shelf

I let you go,

but I know,

that won’t do any good.

You still lurk in the shadows,

of where we once stood.

I just think,

I need a drink,

but I’ve made a choice to stay sober.

The way you talk so silently,

tells me it’s over.

You walk,

I talk,

It’s not fun and games.

As my thoughts fill the pages,

I know it sounds insane.

Nothing for me to do,

it’s all up to you.

Yet somehow I can’t help myself.

I still wonder if you care,

remembering it’s my heart on the shelf.
