Poem: I Grew Up

No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.

I wrote this recently while contemplating and thinking about what has happened to me so far throughout the course of 2013. I hope most of you can understand and relate this poem to your own lives. It’s a coming of age story. It outlines the basics of what I’ve learned and am continuing to learn. Enjoy!

I Grew Up

Worries and woes will not show.

Confidence and independence make one glow.

Loss of innocence, loss of trust,

A journey for all, it’s a must.

Get so close, only to break,

Become so far, a great mistake.

So damn hurt, the pain is strong,

Tears will shed, keep pushing on.

Falling slowly, lower, lower, the falling will go,

Stand up tall, brush off the dust, one is sure to grow.

Barriers from those above, show true colors,

Losing friends, losing faith, we turn to others.

Grasp of a hand, beating of a heart,

Pulls forward, right back to the start.

Heavy hearts, the pressure is on,

Breathing a rhythm until the stress is gone.

Push on; push on, until the light,

Ghosts of past will keep you up at night.

The storm will come, before the sun,

Let it be, let it be, until it’s done.

Uniting as one, as two birds of a feather,

And become strong, getting through this together.

It’s time now, to shine, shine away,

Don’t forget, promise you’ll always stay.

Worries and woes will not show.

Confidence and independence make one glow.

Loss of innocence, loss of trust,

A journey for all, it’s a must.
